Badala Foly History...

The Badala Foly Group was born in 2005, around the drummer and guitarist singer, Abubakar Kouyaté .

 

DJOLIBA from the village along the Niger River , south of Bamako, MALI , Abubakar Kouyate was born into a family of griots .

 

His father, Adama Kouyate is one of the leading musicians of the famous " rail band " alongside Salif Keita. This means qu'Aboubacar KOUYATE is the guarantor of a traditional communication values ​​, history and art of the Mandinka West Africa .

 

It is very early, at the age of 7 he joined the Abass Traoré and initiates percussion and traditional singing troupe. For several years he will teach through traditional ceremonies Bamako and its region .

 

At the age of 15 , he left Bamako to continue his training in Guinea Conakry , it is that he will meet his second mentor, Moussa Sylla who soon joined in his troop " allah Tantoo ."

 

Aboubacar KOUYATE and expanding its repertoire and learns the ballets and performances , including participation in weeks of culture in Conakry. Then comes the road Senegal where he joined the "African ballet" Mamady Cissoko .

 

Continuing his initiatory path to Gambia , Abubakar KOUYATE it will create its first group : the " Cultural Sundiata Band" . This is the age of 28 , he arrived in France at Lille. He met in 2004 guitarist Simon Demouveaux in Séwaryé Hassan Group Boussou ( Gnawa music ) .

Training is enriched over the experiences , encounters and creates an original repertoire inspired by the music of Mali .

 

Badala Foly is preparing to enter the studio in 2012.

 

The album kirina KONO , is the band's first album , released in November 2013 , recorded at the studio in Lille PECK ,

mixed and mastered at DIASPORA ROCKERS to Paris .

 

This album is a tribute to the traditions of Mali , family and Malian music . Together they create a hybrid music, mixing traditional instruments such as kamalen'goni , the balafon, the tamani , the Fulani flute, calabash or djembe, and Western instruments such as drums, bass and electric guitar.

 

The Badala FOLY Group consists of six musicians from the four corners of the far north (Lille and Paris ), all sensitive Mandingo and Culture gathered around Aboubacar KOUYATE Simon Demouveaux (guitarist) , Yann Lebreton ( kamalen'goni ) and Benjamin Moroy ( balafon ) have all been trained in Mali by great traditional masters. They are supported by a rhythm section with funky accents composed of Mehdi Bennadji (drummer) and Ivan ElKaroui (bass) .
